in linguistics, a method of pronouncing words common to a certain region. It can also refer to the stress on a certain syllable.
in writing, a type of diacritic. See acute accent ( � ) or grave accent ( ` ) for more information.
in poetry, the stressed portion of a word.
in music, one of a few specific types of dynamic, usually written above a note (eg. ^ or >) that instructs the musician to play the note underneath with greater force than usual. It is also the more general concept which includes agogic (length), pitch, and dynamic accents.
the Accent programming language for computers.
the Accent operating system kernel.
