Cailly

Cailly is a commune of the Seine-Maritime département, in the Basse-Normandie région, in France.

Geography

The commune owes its name to a river of the same name which rises there. Its length is 25 km. The river flows through Notre-Dame-de-Bondeville and Maromme and empties into the Seine at Rouen.

History

In the 18th and 19th centuries, the valley was filled with textile mills, which earned it the nickname la petite Manchester, (Little Manchester).
