Chad Varah

Edward Chad Varah, CH, CBE, (born November 12, 1911) is a British priest. He founded The Samaritans (now known just as Samaritans) in 1953. He served as rector of the church of St Stephen, Wallbrook in the City of London from 1953-2003, retiring at the age of 92.

Varah was closely associated with the founding of the comic The Eagle in 1950.

He was created a Companion of Honour in 2000.
