City of Caterpillar

City of Caterpillar is an American screamo rock band. They are widely remembered as a band who sought to push the boundaries of what was acceptable in screamo and emo music. They had a split with Pg 99, a full length album, and an album compiling their demo and some live tracks. They made songs that combined emo, screamo, and post-hardcore/rock elements. Many modern bands draw on the groundwork they laid out, bands such as A Day in Black and White, Welcome the Plague Year, and Circle Takes the Square.

Their music moves from technical to restrained in a matter of seconds, often showcasing the prowess of their drummer, a tradition also carried on by A Day in Black and White. City of Caterpillar's music brings a lot of focus to the dynamics of the music, using the standard emo formula pioneered by bands like Indian Summer. Except, they often use the entire band to crescendo into a huge cathartic climax, whereas, Indian Summer's dynamics often paralleled the whisper/scream vocal pattern which many emo bands have become entangled in.

City of Caterpillar recently broke up, and certain members went on to the band Malady, also ex-page 99.
