Clade

A clade is a biological group of species with a common evolutionary ancestor. Such a group is called a monophyletic group. The classification system based on clades is called cladistics.

The clade stands in contrast to the taxon, which is the classical taxonomic grouping. The clade is used in PhyloCode.
