Consolidation

Consolidation is the act of merging many things into one. In business, it refers to the mergers or acquisitions of many smaller companies into much larger ones.

Consolidation in the U.S. media is mostly a result of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, widely criticized for bringing an excessive amount of control under an insufficient number of companies such as Clear Channel Communications and others.
