Dirty Pair
Dirty Pair is a manga and anime franchise made by the formerly popular manga-ka Haruka Takachiho. Its most popular form was the television series Dirty Pair the Original (1987) which was very popular in Japan and even achieved cult status among anime fans in the US. Several OVAs were made with the same characters, but to a slightly different design. A later and less popular anime series done by Takachiho and his studio NUE along with Sunrise Studio was called Dirty Pair Flash which was produced in 1992 and '93. In that series, the characters were presented as younger and in a later anime style. Currently he is in the process of making Dirty Pair: Legacy Of The Dictator.
The Dirty Pair franchise centers around two 3WA trouble consultancy agents called Kei and Yuri, who try to go by the codename Lovely Angels, a name which in many series they have painted on their spaceship. But as they have a reputation throughout the galaxy for causing mayhem and destruction wherever they go, people have nicknamed them "The Dirty Pair."
Kei is a redheaded (and hot-headed) Caucasian with short hair who wears what is generally called a "silver bikini." Yuri, whose name means "lily," is a Japanese with long black hair who is slightly shorter than Kei, and is more feminine and intelligent. Her clothing is more golden in color. Sometimes they wear in addition flying packs that resemble a pair of wings (hence the term "angels"). They form a team which often manifests psi powers when working together. They have two non-human assistants: a robot and an often bulky panther named Mugi who has tentacles. The plot is diverse but usually derives from the pair's inability to cope with each other and their bungled up missions, especially in the Dirty Pair Flash series.
An american comic is currently being made by Adam Warren. It is not an attempt to copy the drawing style of any of the Japanese versions.
