Elevator shoe

In fashion, elevator shoe is a term used in English to denote shoes which have lifts included to make the wearer appear to be taller. Users are almost exclusively men.

The term is usually used in the plural, as "He wears elevator shoes". Amusement, to a greater or lesser degree, attaches to this term, its use, and those who use them.

Shoes with thickened soles are also used in cases of orthopaedic problems, and this term is not usually used for these. Little or no amusement attaches to these shoes or references to them.
