Geek Squad

The Geek Squad is a Minneapolis, Minnesota-based company founded in 1994 by Robert Stephens that specializes in technology support. Members of The Geek Squad are referred to as "Agents". There are several types of Agents within The Geek Squad. The CIA (Counter Intelligence Agents) perform repairs at the counter inside their local precincts. The Double Agents perform a dual role: when not on a service call, they can be found back at the precinct assisting Counter Intelligence. Covert Operations Agents provide telephone support for technology problems. Guidance Engineers schedule agents in the field, and also provide them with support and backup if needed. Special Agents provide support to Corporate and Small Business customers with Microsoft Windows Server-based networks. Their clients include celebrities such as Larry King, The Rolling Stones, Ice Cube, and U2.

In 2002 Geek Squad was acquired by electronics retailer Best Buy, and today Geek Squad precincts are embedded into every Best Buy store. Best Buy also sells a line of Geek Squad-designed computer accessories, such as assorted cables, UPS', and flash drives.

A customer requiring repairs, setups, or training on Microsoft Windows, Macintosh, and in some areas, Linux computers, can call The Geek Squad mission control any time of the day and have an agent at their home, in many cases, in under an hour.

The Geek Squad can be identified while driving to service calls by their vehicles. They drive black and white Volkswagon New Beetles, termed "Geekmobiles" (tm), with an orange and black Geek Squad logo on the door.
