George Sudarshan
E.C.G. Sudarshan (September 16, 1931, Pallam, Kerala) is a prominent Indian physicist and author.
Ennakkal graduated with honors from the Madras Christian College in 1951 (now called Chennai). He did his master's at the University of Madras, India. In 1958 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Rochester, New York.
Dr. Sudarshan is best known for his theory on the weak force. Later, he proposed existence of "Tachyons", particles that travel faster than light. After some reluctance from the scientific community, this theory was eventually published.
He has taught at such Institutions as the Tata Institute Of Fundamental Research, University Of Rochester, Syracuse University and Harvard. From 1969 onwards, he is a Professor of Physics at the University Of Texas, Austin.
His areas of interest include elementary particle physics, quantum optics, quantum information, quantum field theory, gauge field theories, fibre bundles, classical mechanics and foundations of physics. He is also deeply interested in Vedanta.
