Hamani Diori

Hamani Diori (b. 1916 - d. 1989) was the first President of Niger (1960-1974). He also served in the pre-independence government as Prime Minister from 1958 to 1960 in a de facto one-party state imposed by the French.

Diori was deposed by Seyni Kountché in a military coup d'état and later spent time in detention as a political prisoner.
