Hong Kong Film Awards, being the one of the most spectacular film awards in Hong Kong, was established in 1982 and has been built-in into "Hong Kong Film Awards Association Limited" in December 1993. The Board of Directors consists of twelve Hong Kong professional film bodies including:

The Board of Directors holds monthly executive meetings to make a decision on policy-wise matters, which will be carried out by the secretariat. The Secretariat is responsible for the association's external and internal supervision and management, while also organizes four sub-committees to hold customary meetings and the implementation of related matters. The sub-committees will yearly invite professional filmmakers from different fields to chip in. The authority aims at formulate a fair adjudication system and make the award be recognized in the film industry.

Hong Kong Film Awards Association is a non-profit making corporation. The operating revenues of the Award are obtained from the sale of rights to telecast the annual Presentation Ceremony
