History
IUPUC was founded in 1970 as an extension of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (indeed, it was originally called IUPUI Columbus). Originally, the university had no central office, instead offering classes in various locations throughout Columbus. After locating in a couple of interim former airport buildings, the facility was renovated in 1985. The Purdue School of Technology branch program had been initiated there a year earlier. The university's first dean, Paul Bippen, served in this capacity from 1977 until 2003, when he was replaced by Nasser Paydar.
Environment
IUPUC is located in Columbus, Indiana, a medium-sized midwestern city within driving distance of several major metropolitan areas. The university provides its services to Columbus and Bartholomew County, as well as many other surrounding counties and cities. The university also offers classes at several off-campus locations, including Greensburg, Nashville, and Seymour.
The facility itself consists of only two buildings on a rather small campus; no student housing is provided. Not surprisingly, 99.3% of students are Indiana residents. The library is located inside the main building.
In 2005, construction of the Columbus Learning Center completed; this building is intended to provide cooperative education opportunities to IUPUC, the local Ivy Tech State College branch, as well as local public schools.
Academics
IUPUC offers a wide arrange of degrees for such a small facility. The university's divisions and degree programs consist of:

Note that not all these degrees can be completed at IUPUC; some require transferring to IUPUI to fulfill the degree requirements.
