Intersection (aviation)
An intersection, when referring to aviation, is a fictional navigational fix (often the point of intersection of two VOR radials) which helps aircraft to stay on their assigned track. Intersections also play an important role in departure and approach procedures. All intersections have a designation. Near a major airport it often consists of three letters and the runway number. Most other intersection designations consist of five letters, often catchy combinations -- in fact, pronouncable words, so that they can be more easily remembered when ATC or the flight plan requires the pilot to use it.
