Istra stands on the Istra River.

Founded in 16th century as Voskresensk (Воскресе́нск). In 1930 renamed Istra.

2. Istra (IS-trah) is the Croatian and Slovenian name for Istria, a large peninsula in northwestern Croatia and southwestern Slovenia projecting into the north Adriatic, opposite of Venice, Italy.
