Joseph Cotten

Joseph Cotten (May 15, 1905February 6, 1994) was an American stage and screen actor, noted for his key roles in such classics as Citizen Kane, The Magnificent Ambersons, The Third Man, and Shadow of a Doubt. He made his cinematic debut in Citizen Kane, at the invitation of his longtime friend, Orson Welles. On Broadway, Cotten created roles in The Philadelphia Story and Sabrina Fair. He made frequent guest appearances on television, including several on the original Alfred Hitchcock Presents and as a recurring character on It Takes a Thief. Cotten also hosted three television anthology series, 20th Century–Fox Hour; On Trial, later retitled The Joseph Cotten Show; and Hollywood and the Stars.

He was born in Petersburg, Virginia and died in Palm Springs, California from complications of throat cancer at the age of 88.
