Karl Edward Wagner

Karl Edward Wagner (1945-1994) was an American writer of horror, science fiction, and heroic fantasy. While some of his work is set in Robert E. Howard's universe (featuring Conan and Bran Mak Morn), he also created his own mystical and pre-historical hero, Kane, whose name and background are reminiscent of the biblical Cain. He edited, for many years, The Year's Best Horror Stories anthology series until his death. Unfortunately, he was a severe alcoholic, and died prematurely at the age of forty-nine in 1994.
