The Constitution of South Africa also recognises a further 8 non-official languages. These are: Fanagalo, Lobedu, Northern Ndebele, Phuthi, Sign Language, Khoe, Nama and San.

Significant numbers of immigrants from Europe, elsewhere in Africa, and the Indian Subcontinent mean that a wide variety of other languages can also be found in parts of South Africa. These include German, French, Portuguese, Hindi, Urdu and a number of West African languages.
