Line cook

A line cook is skilled worker in a professional kitchen ranking above an unskilled worker or kitchen aide and below a sous chef or a specialized chef such as a patissier. The line cook is one step in an apprenticeship in professional cooking.

The line cook prepares food for cooking. A typical task would be the preparation of stocks and simple sauces.
