Major Danby
Major Danby is a character in Joseph Heller's novel Catch-22. He is a college professor and intellectual who sees himself as a poor match for the armed services. He briefs the airmen on upcoming missions. He is almost shot for insubordination—sighing after a demand for silence—by General Dreedle. Along with Chaplain Tappman, Hungry Joe, Nately, and Orr, he is one of the few soldiers with whom the main character Yossarian maintains a decent relationship throughout the novel.
