Mark Rosewater

Mark Rosewater is a prolific Magic: The Gathering card designer for Wizards of the Coast. With the title of Lead Designer for Magic, he oversees the development of new expansion sets. He is often referred to as "MaRo," originally a Wizards office name for him. In the Mirage expansion of the card game, a creature named Maro was included, named for him.

Rosewater has helped design and develop many card sets, including Tempest, Unglued, Urza's Destiny, Odyssey, and Mirrodin.

Rosewater writes a weekly column on the official Magic: The Gathering website called Making Magic, which has been the target of both criticism and praise. By giving an "insider's view" of Magic design, he often writes about topics which generate comment. In one such controversial article, Rosewater described the importance of including rare cards which are inherently (or intentionally) "bad" as compared to others.

Rosewater attended Boston University, and has a background in comedy writing, including writing for the sitcom Roseanne.
