McCartney was the first solo album by Paul McCartney after the break-up of the Beatles. The album was released within days of McCartney announcing to the world that he had quit the band. In fact, Let It Be was released a couple of weeks after the release of this work.
To distance himself from his work in the Beatles, McCartney recorded this album at his home studio in late 1969 and early 1970.
