Memorial Day Weekend outbreak

The Memorial Day tornado outbreak lasted for two days from May 2930, 2004. This tornado outbreak began in the Great Plains and continued throughout the Midwest. The results from this outbreak are still being tabulated, but as of December 2004, the Storm Prediction Center has 199 tornado reports from the two days, but they have records for 149 actual tornadoes.

The 149 tornadoes occurred in 32 hours of continuous activity, which would not break the record held by the 1974 Super Outbreak, which saw 148 tornadoes in 18 hours.

So far, damage totals from this outbreak are at $62.321 million. The Storm Prediction Center will not have all results tabulated from this outbreak until the spring of 2005.

Only five people were killed from this outbreak.
