Mike Joyce

Mike Joyce was the drummer for The Smiths.

He sued former guitarist Johnny Marr and former singer Morrissey in 1996, as he and bassist Andy Rourke had only received 10% of performance and recording royalties compared to 40% each for Morrissey and Marr. The court, headed by one Judge Weeks, ruled in favour of Joyce but Morrissey appealed. Mike Joyce is still involved in the court case over royalties with Morrissey; however, unlike former bandmate Rourke, Joyce refuses to settle for less than the judge's order. Many believe Joyce does not deserve the settlement the judge ordered, since he was little more than a session musician; however, Joyce refuses to back down. Marr eventually paid Joyce his half, and Morrissey's side is likely to come to a resolution with Joyce soon. Mike Joyce now plays with Rourke in the band Vinny Peculiar.
