Monkeyfilter
Monkeyfilter is a collaborative or community weblog, where members post links to online content, such as websites or articles, which either amuse or provoke discussion.
Originally founded in mid-November 2003 as a site for Metafilter lurkers waiting for registration to re-open, Monkeyfilter, (or Mofi) has grown into a community weblog in its own right, with parallel aims to Metafilter and the motto: "More bananas, less flinging". The name references a longstanding MetaFilter in-joke motif.
Membership has steadily increased and on its first birthday was at approximately 2,300 active users, including a considerable number of non-North American members. The growth of Monkeyfilter is likely due to the fact that, like Metafilter, it has no specific focus, and thus collects links and conversations on a wide variety of topics, including politics, religion, world events, technology, lifestyle and silly flash games.
The site uses Jack Driscoll's Metaphilter engine, which is now available on Sourceforge and open for anyone to add patches and bug fixes.
