Muriel Box

Muriel Box (1905-1991) was a British writer of books and films, as well as a producer and director. She was born Violette Muriel Baker in Tolworth, Surrey, England in 1905. She had success early in her film career, earning the 1946 Academy Award for Best Writing, Original Screenplay for The Seventh Veil. This award with awarded jointly with her first husband Sydney Box, whom she married in 1935. She had a notable and long-lasting career as one of the first successful women to produce, direct and write for film. Box divorced Sydney Box in 1969. In 1970, she married Gerald Gardiner, who had been Lord Chancellor until 1970.
