New York Press

The New York Press is the conservative alternative weekly competitor to the Village Voice in New York City. In the late 1990s the publication forced the Village Voice to become a free paper to compete.

Russ Smith founded the paper in 1988, editing it until 2004. He still contributes a column under the pseudonym Mugger.

It is now edited by Jeff Koyen and Alex Zaitchik. Matt Taibbi writes a weekly column on politics and current affairs.

Although generally conservative, the Press has run Alexander Cockburn's "Wild Justice" column. Gay activist Michelangelo Signorile is also a contributing columnist.
