The palatal approximant occurs in English, and it is the sound denoted by the letter "y" in you or yesterday.

Other languages

In many languages, the letter "j" denotes the palatal approximant. In Fennic languages such as Finnish, this is without exception; in Germanic languages, there may be exceptions, e.g. Swedish "tj" [tʃ].
