The newly-erected family of Phyllanthaceae comprises 1725 species of trees, shrubs and herbs distributed in all tropical regions of the world. In total, the Phyllanthaceae has 56 genera. It comprises 1725 species distributed into 52 genera and 9 tribes.

Genera

The organization of this new family is exactly the same as that of ex-subfamily Phyllanthoides. Note that the tribe Hymenocardieae is sometimes erected into family Hymenocardiaceae, but the term Hymenocardiaceae can also be used as a synonym of Euphorbiaceae.
