Prehistoric insect
Prehistoric Insects are various groups of insects that lived before recorded history. (About 3500 BC.)
Insects inhabited the Earth since before the time of the dinosaurs. Most modern-day insects had already evolved to very similar forms even before the dawning of the dinosaur and lived alongside them and beyond up to the present day. The differences between modern and prehistoric varieties are not great except like every other creature of prehistory, tended to be much larger than contemperary equivalents.
Since insects have no bones, few specimens have been found compared to the much larger vertebrates, since almost perfect fossilization is required. Many fossil remains are found in amber.
A very short list of examples:
- Ancient cockroach
- Coleoptera
- Diptera
