Raoul Salan
Raoul Albin Louis Salan (June 10, 1899 - July 3, 1984) was the fourth French commanding general in Vietnam during the First Indochina War.
General Raoul Salan is one of four Generals who organized the 1961 Algiers Putsch. On January 16, 1957, while commander of the 10th military Area, and of the interarmy commander in Algiers, an attempt on Salan's life was made by bazooka. This resulted in the death of Colonel Rodier. The authors of the attack were Philippe Castille and Michel Fechoz; the conductor?, Rene Kovacs, was an algierian military doctor for French Algeria who wanted to replace Salan with General Cogny (reputedly more energetic). Kovacs blamed the influence of French Prime Minister Michel Debré, but without presenting any proof. An investigation came to nothing.
