Reciprocity (mathematics)
In mathematics, reciprocity is applied to a number of theorems, and at times certain relationships. The most celebrated of these is quadratic reciprocity, a fundamental result in number theory. It has many generalisations, including
- cubic reciprocity
- biquadratic reciprocity
- higher reciprocity laws
- Artin reciprocity
- Weil reciprocity for algebraic curves.
There are also some unrelated terms, such as
- Frobenius reciprocity
- Hermite's reciprocity law in invariant theory
- Stanley's reciprocity theorem.
