Record Of The Year
Record Of The Year is a UK TV show on ITV1, started in 1998, that takes place every year just before Christmas. Hosted in the past by Denise Van Outen and Ant & Dec, and more recently by Cat Deeley, the show sees ten of the biggest records of the year fighting it out to win the title of Record Of The Year. Previous winners have included Westlife three times, in 1999, 2000 and 2003, but Boyzone, S Club 7, Busted and Gareth Gates have also won in the past, Busted being 2004's winners with Thunderbirds Are Go from the film of the same name, with McFly coming second place with Five Colours In Her Hair.
The weekend before the event itself, ITV1 viewers are given a shortlist of 20-30 songs from the past year to vote from. They vote for their 10 favourites, and then the final 10 are announced later in the week.
The final then takes place that Saturday, with all the performers appearing first before votes are cast over a two hour period and on the other side of that period comes the announcement of the winner.
2005 will see the seventh annual contest.
