Silvio Gesell

Jean Silvio Gesell (March 17, 1862March 11, 1930) was a merchant and finance theoretician. He founded the Freiwirtschaftslehre (doctrine of free economy). In 1906 he wrote his most famous book, The Natural Economic Order. He is most noted for advocating a currency which would depreciate over time as, at scheduled intervals, users chip off portions.

He was born in Sankt-Vith, Belgium the son of a Walloon mother and a German father. He died in Eden near Oranienburg.
