Sudanese dinar

The Sudanese dinar is the currency of Sudan. It is divided into 10 Sudanese pounds, each of which is subdivided into 100 piastres. The dinar was introduced on June 8, 1992 replacing the pound as a base unit. The currency is pegged to the Libyan dinar at around 200 Sudanese dinars to the Libyan dinar. As of January 13, 2005, there were 255.950 Sudanese dinars to the US dollar, or 336.173 to the Euro.

Banknotes in circulation

The 5, 10 and 25-dinar bills are being removed and replaced by coins. There were formerly bills of 5, 10, 50, and 100 pounds circulating alongside the dinar-denominated notes.

The Sudanese government is said to be planning to replace the Dinar with a new currency (the Sudanese pound) in fiscal year 2005.
