Sydney Silverman

Sydney Silverman was elected as British MP in the 1945 General election for Nelson & Colne, holding the seat at the subsequent general elections in 1950 and 1951.

A member of the Labour Party and a fervent supporter of the abolition of Capital punishment he proposed a Private Member's Bill on abolition which was passed on a free vote in the House of Commons by 200 votes to 98 on June 28 1956.
