Track

The word track can have different meanings:

• a railroad track: see rail tracks
• a trail, informal road or pathway
• a distinct section (mostly on song) of a sound recording, such as a gramophone record or compact disc
• a circular segment of a hard disk or other storage media
• caterpillar tracks, the large (modular) tracks used on tanks and certain other off-road vehicles or such vehicles themselves (usually combat vehicles)
• a course laid out for running or racing, commonly oval-shaped, see

  • category:Horse-racing courses
  • Category:Racing venues
• the measured distance between right and left side wheels of a vehicle, as opposed to wheelbase
• in particle physics, a track is the reconstruction of the signals recorded in a detector after the passage of a particle.
