The University of Bergen (Universitetet i Bergen) is located in Bergen, Norway. Although founded as late as 1946, academic activity had taken place at Bergen Museum as far back as 1825. The university today caters for more than 17.000 students. It is one of six universities in Norway, the other five being the University of Oslo, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the University of Tromsø, the University of Stavanger and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences.

Being situated in a social democracy, the fee for attending this university is very low: 800 NOK (approx. 100 USD) per year.
