Vince Welnick

Vince Welnick (born February 21 1951 in Phoenix, Arizona) started playing keyboards as a teenager and the band he joined (The Beans) eventually morphed into The Tubes. After the demise of the Tubes, Vince played with Todd Rundgren.

In 1990 Brent Mydland, the keyboardist of the Grateful Dead died of a drug overdose. Since three prior keyboardists had also died, when Vince got the gig many jokes were made about him being sure he had his life insurance paid up. He stayed with the Grateful Dead until Jerry Garcia's death in 1995.

Since Garcia's death, Welnick has been involved in solo efforts, including the band Missing Man Formation.
