Vision therapy

VISION THERAPY Optometric vision therapy is the art and science of establishing or improving visual skills to achieve optimum visual performance and comfort. 20/20 eyesight alone does not mean perfect vision. Excellent vision includes optimal visual skills such as coordinating your two eyes together (eye teaming), changing and/or maintaining focus easily, moving your eyes efficiently from one place to another and seeing clearly within arm’s reach. These visual skills are important for school, work and sports.

The concept of vision therapy originated during the late nineteenth century for the non-surgical correction of crossed eyes. Then optometric collaboration with psychologists, educators and neuro-scientists produced an expansion of vision therapy into the treatment of other eye teaming deficits as well as dysfunctions in tracking, focusing, visual perception and visual motor skills. Scientific validation for optometric vision therapy exists in hundreds of research studies which continue to this day.
