Walter Ritz

Walter Ritz, born in Sion, Switzerland on 22 February 1878, was a theoretical physicist.

He studied in Zurich and Göttingen. He is most famous for his co-work with Johannes Rydberg on the Rydberg-Ritz formula. Ritz is also known for the variational method named after him, the Ritz method.

In 1900, he was infected by tuberculosis, which killed him in Göttingen on 7 July 1909.
