Federation of Windurst
The Federation of Windurst is a fictional country in the Square Enix massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XI. Windurst lies on the eastern continent of the planet Vana'diel in a region refered to as Kolshushu. Windurst is surrounded by the vast fields of Sarutabaruta (an ancient Tarutaran word for "land of prophecy"), a vast steppe region, home to many unique species of plants and animals.
Windurst was founded by five tribes of Tarutaru from the sweeping grasslands and neighboring islands of southern Mindartia. In present Windurst, the heirs of these original five tribes comprise the five ministries of magic. Representatives from these ministries comprise Windurst's governing council. Government policy is based on the prophecies of the mystic Star Sybil who resides in the fabled Heavens Tower.
The capital city of the federation, Windurst City, was razed to the ground in the Crystal War twenty years ago, but the city has subsequently been rebuild, and returned to its former prominence as a center of learning and culture. One section of the city is inhabited by the Mithra, a race of natural hunters whose skills have brought much financial prosperity to the nation.
