Windward Islands (Society Islands)

The Windward Islands (French Īles du Vent) are the eastern group of the Society Islands in French Polynesia. The archipelago comprises an administrative division of French Polynesia, and includes Tahiti, Moorea, Mehetia, Tetiaroa, and Maiao.

Tahiti and Moorea are high islands. Mehetia, Tetiaroa and Maiao are all coral atolls.

Although French is an important language, the majority of the population speaks Tahitian (co-official with French throughout French Polynesia).
