WinSCP is an open source SFTP client for Microsoft Windows. Its main function is secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functionality. It uses Secure Shell (SSH) and supports, in addition to SFTP, the legacy SCP protocol.

Developement of WinSCP was started approximately in May 2000 and still continues. Originally it was hosted on University of Economics in Prague, where its author used to work at the time. Since July 16 2003 it is licensed under GPL and hosted on SourceForge.

WinSCP is based on implementation of SSH protocol from PuTTY.

WinSCP is also available as a plugin to two file managers, FAR and Servant Salamander.
