World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship
The World Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championship is the highest-profile tournament for high school students involved in debating and public speaking, for an individual ranking. All competitors must take part in four events: parliamentary debating, impromptu speaking, interpretive reading and either persuasive speaking or after-dinner speaking. The competition began at Reading Blue Coat School in Reading, England in 1988 and has continued since then. Most of the championships have been held in the United Kingdom, although other countries including Argentina, Botswana and Cyprus have hosted them.
Numerous countries participate in the tournament, including: Canada, the USA, England, South Africa, Lithuania, Pakistan, Cyprus, Argentina, Botswana, Israel and Germany.
