York & Selby Lines
The York & Selby Lines is the name given to a group of services in the West Yorkshire Metro area, connecting Leeds with places to its north and east: as well as the Northern Rail local services to York and Selby, the services extend to:
- Newcastle by TransPennine Express and Virgin Trains
- Scarborough by TransPennine Express
- Middlesborough by TransPennine Express
- Hull by TransPennine Express

The routes
Before the 1923 Grouping all the routes over which these services operate were worked by the North Eastern Railway. The routes are as follows:
Leeds - Micklefield
- Leeds New station (now part of the Leeds City station)
- Marsh Lane: the original terminus of the line into Leeds: now closed
- Cross Gates
- here was the junction of a line to Wetherby
- Garforth
- here was the junction of a line to Castleford via Kippax
- East Garforth
- Micklefield here is the junction between the two routes
Selby route
- South Milford for South Milford and Shurburn-in-Elmet
- here was a connection with a line from Castleford to York (Gascoigne Wood Junction)
- Hambleton (?closed station)
- Selby here the MetroCard system ends
- here was a swing bridge over the River Wharfe
- Between Selby and Brough there were stations serving the following places:
- Hemingbrough
- Wressle
- Howden (also served by the Hull and Barnsley Railway (HBR)
- Eastrington also served by the HBR
- Staddlethorpe where a branch came in from Goole
- Broomfleet
- Brough for Brough and Elloughton
- two more stations (?) closed) serving:
- Ferriby
- Hessle
- Hull Paragon station for Kingston_upon_Hull
York route
This section of the route is also called the Dearne Valley line (DVL)
- Church Fenton here the DVL heads south for Doncaster; there was also a branch from here to Harrogate via Wetherby
- Ulleskelf for Ulleskelf and Kirkby Wharf
- here were two places served by the railway now (?) closed:
- Bolton Percy
- Copmanthorpe
- York (also served by the Huddersfield Line
Beyond York the main line trains (as detailed above) operate.
